Story shapes our perception. With conflicting accounts of her origin most predominantly positioned in blame and subordination, Eve knows all too well the implications of perspective on one’s character. What one may interpret as self-advocacy could easily be disguised as disobedience. And what another views as defiance could in tandem be an act of courage. From the beginning, Eve’s story has been filled with ambiguity. Not just because of when and how it was told, but mostly for how it was heard.
“The Mother of All Living,” Eve is ultimately responsible for the creation of all mankind, yet was also blamed for the fall of man. She is a reminder of the marginal space between our greatest capacity and our deepest vulnerability.
