• A fairly new stone, Polychrome Jasper was recently discovered in Madagascar around 2008 when miners were looking for Ocean Jasper. It is a variety of chalcedony characterized by its striking multicolored patterns, typically featuring swirling or banded combinations of reds, yellows, browns, and creams, sometimes with touches of green or black. Also known as Desert Jasper, this opaque stone forms from silica-rich solutions in volcanic environments, and its distinctive patterns are created by mineral impurities and varying conditions during formation, and it must be dug by hand due to its remote locale.
